Below is a list of tour leaders that accompany you on your tour. All our
leaders are expert naturalists. They will be able to show you, and help you to
identify, many of the birds, plants and mammals that occur in the region that
you are visiting. Please note however, that whilst we assign leaders to
particular tours well in advance, we reserve the right to make changes if
necessary.

was born in Essex and birds have been the driving force behind his career
from an early age. After university he worked on projects in both Norway and
Sweden studying passerines. The next two years were spent at the British Trust
for Ornithology working on the decline of farmland birds. A Masters in applied
ecology followed and this included three months in the Mascarene Islands
studying endangered weaver birds. He then spent six months radio-tracking Song
Thrushes for the RSPB and is currently at Bristol University studying for a PhD
looking at the effect of water nutrients on diving duck numbers.
has had an absorbing passion for natural history ever since his earliest
childhood days in rural Hertfordshire. His enthusiasm has carried him through an
undergraduate degree in zoology at Cambridge University and gained him a PhD in
evolutionary biology and ornithology from Oxford University. Along the way Rob
has worked on a number of projects in the field, gaining valuable experience in
the Seychelles, Norway, Costa Rica and Scotland. He now spends his time sharing
his passion for the natural world with other people, by means of his guiding
work and through television research and broadcasting. He has worked as a
natural history guide since 1995 throughout much of the Indian Ocean, Southern
Ocean, North Atlantic, Mediterranean, Pacific and Red Sea regions. His recent
television projects include the critically acclaimed 'Triumph of Life' series
broadcast on PBS in the US and presenting natural history documentaries for UK's
Channel 4 and The Learning Channel. He is currently a consultant on a new BBC
series 'Journey of Life'. In line with his PhD, Rob's main specialty is birds
but his interests, knowledge and endless enthusiasm embrace geology and botany
as well is currently
working on a PhD on Green Toad behaviour and is always keen to get out into the
field. He lives in the Piemonte region of Italy although his wildlife interest
and his work take him all over Europe and Asia. Stefano speaks perfect English
as well as fluent French and of course Italian, all of which puts the rest of us
in our places! He will not only provide plenty of local wildlife knowledge on
our tours to the Gargano, Sicily and the Dolomites, but will also enjoy giving a
historical perspective to the places we visit.
